COMMON TERMS
WHAT IS AN FFL?
An 'FFL' is a Federal Firearms License. Common FFL holders include all gun stores, many pawn shops and retail sporting goods stores. Some individuals may hold an FFL as well. Firearms purchased online MUST be shipped to a FFL holder. The FFL holder will then transfer the firearm to the purchaser.
PAYMENT
WHAT PAYMENTS DO YOU EXCEPT?
L&A Firearms accepts payment via Visa, MasterCard and Discover credit cards. We will also accept money orders, cashier’s check or personal checks. However, items purchased with a personal check will not be shipped until the check clears.
LEGALITY
ONLINE FIREARM PURCHASES
It is legal to buy and sell firearms via the Internet as long as all federal and state laws are obeyed. Transfer of firearms must be made through an FFL holder. To receive a firearm purchased via the Internet, an individual must contact an FFL holder before the purchase and make arrangements for the transfer. As with most firearm purchases, the buyer must pass a background check.
ONLINE FIREARM ACCESSORIES OR KNIFE PURCHASES
Knife or firearm accessories do not require transfer via an FFL holder.
ANTIQUE FIREARMS
Any firearm constructed before the year 1898, or a replica thereof, does not require transfer through an FFL holder. The following is the ATF's definition of an 'antique' firearm: (a) Any firearm (including any firearm with a matchlock, flintlock, percussion cap, or similar type of ignition system) manufactured in or before 1898; and (b) any replica of any firearm described in paragraph (a) of this definition if such replica (1) is not designed or redesigned for using rimfire or conventional centerfire fixed ammunition, or (2) uses rimfire or conventional centerfire fixed ammunition which is no longer manufactured in the United States and which is not readily available in the ordinary channels of commercial trade.
TRADING
ACCEPTING GUN TRADES
L&A Firearms does accept gun trades on new or used guns. An inspection or the firearm is required.
SHIPPING
WHERE DOES L&A FIREARMS SHIP?L&A Firearms will only ship within the United States. We DO NOT ship outside the US. The listed shipping charge is only for the 48 contiguous states. Alaska and Hawaii can expect at least double the listed shipping rates.
SHIPPING TO HOME OR OFFICE
All firearms are shipped to a verified FFL holder. The only exceptions are some black powder firearms, and then only to approved states.
SHIPPING CARRIER
L&A Firearms ships via both United Parcel Service (UPS) and the United States Postal Service (USPS). No exceptions.
- Long guns ship via UPS at a cost of $29.95 plus insurance (1% of the firearm's cost). Firearms are insured separately.
- Handguns ship via USPS at a cost of $14.95 plus insurance (1% of the firearm's cost). Firearms are insured separately.
- Ammo ships via USPS at a cost of $14.95.
- Shipping for accessories costs $4.95 for orders up to $49.99; $9.95 for orders up to $99.99; $14.95 for orders up to $149.99. $19.95 for orders up to $199.99. For orders $200 and over, we offer free shipping within the contiguous United States.
We cannot ship to P.O. boxes. When making a purchase, include your e-mail address and you will be sent the UPS tracking number for the item purchased. Any accessories purchased will be sent directly to you and not your local FFL holder. This will result in separate shipping charges.
ARRANGING A TRANSFER TO A LOCAL FFL HOLDER
It is preferred that you contact a local FFL holder BEFORE purchasing a firearm from L&A Firearms. This speeds up the shipping process. You can order from us first. We provide you with seven days to contact and arrange an FFL holder before cancelling your order.
TRANSFER FEE
A typical transfer fee is around $25 US. But this may differ at your location. Ask the FFL holder in your area what price they charge.
